So Bryan and I wake up at 5 am to take our ride on the motorcycle. Let me just say that the Electraglide is a sweet bike. Bryan and I are both amazed that we were the limiting factor on how far we could go on the bike. We rode for 9 hours and didn’t have to fill up once and the only time we stopped was just to stretch rather than because our butts were in excruciating pain. We definitely want a bigger bike after this trip and have got back on the Dave Ramsey Wagon (The Bald Man) with that goal in mind. Oh and the new chatterbox system is awesome as well. I just need my new helmet. So we leave out at around 6 and get lost. (This is Boston Remember) We get back on track and take Route 2A through Lexington and Concord and a bunch of small towns. We saw some cool damns, some bits of Americana, and had breakfast at McDonalds (it was open) where they served sweet tea. Bryan was in heaven. http://www.lovelesschristian.com/gallery/motorcycleboston
We were going up and over valleys and ridges all over Massachusetts and there were some very cool views and pretty little towns. We drove by people going to church and breakfast and felt like we got a pretty good feeling for the rural parts of the state. At around 10:30 I saw a sign that said New Hampshire 11 miles. I talked to Bryan and we decided to go for it. We started down the road and found out that although it said that it was a major road we found out otherwise. This road was filled with potholes and the sand was coming through the pavement. It was pretty bad, but it looked like a route that not many people took so that was cool. By the time we hit New Hampshire we definitely wanted to get a picture of the state line and the fact that we made it down the crazy road.
We pull over and Bryan puts on the hazard lights (yes the bike had hazards) and I try to set the camera up on some rocks so we could take a picture together when a very nice couple pulls over. They ask if we’re ok and we tell them that we are and explain we’re just trying to take a picture. They laugh and ask us if we want them to take the picture. We say sure that’d be great and they get out of their car that is parked on the road and take our picture. It was pretty cool.
So we ride through New Hampshire and figure out it is 15 more miles to Vermont. So we went on to Vermont. The ride was beautiful and we end up in a little town across the Connecticut River and take a picture of the post office to prove we went. We then turn around and go back to Massachusetts and got to Greenfield. Here we decided to turn around and head back on 2A towards Boston. We do and as we are driving we go over a bridge that I tell Bryan to turn at. We go to the little town of Montague where we must take pictures for our friend Chris and have lunch at a very hole in the wall type restaurant. As we walk in a man who’s around 85 talks about the bike and the weather with us and opens the door for me. We find out that the restaurant is only open till 2 on Sundays so they have a breakfast menu, but the waitress (who has a picture of her up in the place from when she was in high school and is around 50) tells us that we can order something that can be cooked on the grill if we want it. I order the Greek omelet with a V8, it was feta and spinach, and Bryan had a burger. We had a good time and overheard the conversation that the gentleman who opened the door for us was having with another woman. He was telling her how he bought $60 worth of wool to make a rug and how it was a waste of money. Too funny. Oh and Bryan went to the bathroom which was in the kitchen. I guess he wasn’t expecting that. When we left I realized I had to go so I stopped in to the state park that was across the street where the ranger told me what pictures to take before I left so my husband would come back when we had more time. We were worried about the time limit on the bike so we left and rode like hell to get to Concord. When we got there we stopped at the minute men memorial and the place where Paul Revere was captured. We also saw Lexington Green, where the first shots of the revolutionary war were fired. Then we were definitely out of time and headed back to the Harley Dealership to drop off the bike. After that we went to Harvard Square (We got lost getting there) to see the offices of Dewey Chetum and Howe (CarTalk) which we drove by and then got lost getting back to our hotel. This took us about 2 hours to finally make the right turn, but in the mean time we saw the financial district, china town and the harbor district. When we got back to our hotel we decided to hit The North End for dinner and ate at this great place called Tratoria di Monica. For appetizer we had a summer caprese salad which consisted of greens, tomato, basil, peaches, mozzarella, prosciutto and was drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It was awesome, but not as awesome as our entrĂ©e. Bryan had the spinach gnocchi with a braised pork and tomato sauce and I had the butternut squash ravioli with a gorgonzola, prosciutto and asparagus sauce. The sauce was so salty that it made the ravioli and asparagus taste like candy. Then we decided to check out a gelato place and I was at least disappointed. But the evening was beautiful and the walk was nice. We got back to the hotel, packed and then woke up at 3:30 to get to the hotel. We couldn’t find a gas station that was open and were afraid to get lost again so we turned in the car without filling it up and got on the bus to the airport. Then we flew out and that was our Boston trip. Good food, great ride, horrible sense of directions :)
